The Third Twin

Book Review   by:RN     Original Author: Ken Follett
ª

A “third” twin?? Undoubtedly, this is a paradoxical title that in itself can arouse one’s curiosity enough to pick up and read the book. Genetic researcher Jeannie Ferrami discovers identical twins born to different mothers , while using a restricted FBI database. Disturbed by this strange discovery, she resolves to get to the bottom of this oddity at any cost. But Jeannie’s pursuit for the truth catapults her headlong into the very core of a scandal that could jeopardize or wreck her career. To fight the charges leveled against her, she finds herself plunging deeper and deeper into a web of hidden evidence and cover-ups. With mounting apprehension and dread, she discovers that this is a rather sinister and far-reaching conspiracy involving unethical and questionable genetic experiments, and some of the most powerful men in America. Moreover, these men will stop at nothing to keep the “skeletons in the cupboard” where they belong – in the “cupboard” itself!! But, one after the other, Jeannie continues to uncover progressively more disturbing evidence about other “twins”………. The narrative traces her quest to blow the lid off the mystery of the “third” twin, uncovering fact after fact, ultimately ending in an unforgettable and mind-blowing climax! The master of thrillers, Ken Follett has succeeded in integrating the essence of present-day issues of genetic engineering and test-tube babies into this highly charged and fast-paced biotech thriller. He skillfully puts together the requisite ingredients of an out and out page-turner – well-etched-out characters, sex, conspiracies, crime, and sellouts. Rest assured, by the end of this book, the paradox in the title will become crystal-clear, and perhaps may even leave the reader contemplating whether this could all be an actual possibility sometime in the distant or the near future……..only time will tell…

    Good work

A Third Twin? A puzzling title and an out-of-the-world story line nicely summed up. Test tube babies, clones and now a 'third twin'. 'Only time will tell'....Today's illusion could be tomorrow's reality thanks to the many Jeannie Ferramis. Well! We have to wait and watch.
