Wikipedia is a comprehensive reference on the
internet.
Like other sites gaining in popularity on the internet, Wikipedia is an ever growing site which it’s readers may edit and add to,
making it able to be very dynamic and up to date. Topics covered include: culture, geography, history, life, science, mathematics, society, and technology. You can browse the site by searching the articles, or get an alphabetical listing of the index to the site. The links are easily followed, and the site is very
easy to navigate. It’s also available in several languages other then English, making it truly accessable worldwide.
Wikipedia also makes it easy to add to their knowledge base by providing many tools to make adding to what’s already there simple. Joining is easy and certainly cost effective!
This is truly like having a
hard copy encyclopedia in digital format! The alphabet is broken down into letter combinations, such as “aa”, etc, and you look things up either by spelling or by subject. There are many hyperlinks in each
article, making cross referencing easy and quick. The articles are written in an easy to understand way, but aren’t condescending to people who have had more exposure to academic works.
I found subjects I never heard of before mixed in with things more familiar to me-and they were all easy to follow and navigate. If more sites like this come along, the knowledge on the internet is going to rival any found in brick and mortar libraries and hard copy books. There is so much information easily available on this page, with so many cross references, it was
difficult to stop reading and write this abstract! I found so many subjects worth reading about, it was difficult even to pick one to focus on for this article! This is a must bookmark site.
