A
firefly units yellow green light from special organs located in the lower portion of its obdomen. These organs contain
ma chemical called luciferin. The light producing organs also
contain an enzyme called
luciferase which acts as a catalyst when luciferine comes in contact with organ from in presence of luciferase, it gets oxidized and units flashes of light.
The light produced , however is cool. The firefly can regulate the blinking of light by controlling air supply. Each species of firefly blinks with a particular rhythm, Which supposed to be a mating response, The female fireflies flash less often than the males.
