Without Mercy

Book Review by: freyin12

Original Authors: Miriam Ali; Jana Wain
    Without Mercy
A Book by Miriam Ali.     Miriam Ali is the mother of the author of ‘ Sold’ and ‘A Promise To Nadia’, Zana Muhsen.
This is not a book to tell the world how sorry she was for losing her two daughters and that she wished them well. Instead, this is a book, by a loving mother telling each struggle she went through in finding her daughters.
Although Zana managed to escape from the brutality in Yemen, there was still Nadia and her grandchildren. Miriam stood firm in her decision to seek help from as many parties as possible to rescue Nadia from her misery.
In this book, Miriam showed her love through the ferocious struggles she made in the battles against modern slavery. This is a true first-hand story of how a mother fought, the anguish she was in, and the tormented and awkward situations she had to face. Miriam knew she had to do something for her child.
Of course, these battles also offended many parties, including her ex-husband, the father of her two daughters who were sold to Yemen as child-brides. Then, the men who did the same to their children, the government officials and so on. Despite all these, Miriam never gave up.
An excerpt from the epilogue of ‘Without Mercy’ …..
“Imagine, if you will, that this is your life; that this has happened to your own flesh and blood. Imagine a strange man touching her, beating her, raping her, impregnating her then laughing smugly in her face as she suffers. Imagine your flesh and blood enduring these degrading, incalculable atrocities. A slave.
What would you do? Give up? Forget it?”    Don''t judge the book from this abstract, you must read it and feel the compassion. Hopefully, you will look at the differently after that becasue many thing will not have the same face value again.
