Environmental pollution. Clearing up the
Environment is undoubtedly one of the major problems, which people inhabiting our
planet have to face up to. For many decades, governments neglected that issue and as a result, it is almost impossible to find unpolluted place on our planet. The situation is even worse, here in Poland. We all know how
pollution has an adverse effect on our planet; poisonous gasses from factories destroy the ozone layer, contributing to the greenhouse effect, which results in global warming. Although everybody realizes that, people do not really understand that their pursuit of comfortable life and the industrial development can do nothing but harm enormously our
environment. In fact, every individual is the one to blame. Nevertheless, we can all do something to improve that alarming situation. The introduction of some protection does not require much effort. People should try to diminish the number of rubbish dumps. Many everyday items such as glass and paper can be recycled. That is why we should re-use them rather than throw them away. It would reduce the problem of too many dumps, where rubbish is stored. Government has to control the number of trees being cut strictly, because the process of deforestation is equally dangerous. It brings about floods and soil erosion during rainy seasons. An increased amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere causes the greenhouse effect and leads to important changes in the Earth’s climate. Using public transport instead of cars would definitely improve the situation. Most cars use unleaded petrol, but this still damages the environment. Some “Green Days” when nobody would pay for his bus ticket would be the best way for people to get used to travelling by public transport. People could also refrain from smoking, as the cigarette smoke is not only harmful for their health but also for the air. We can also reduce the pollution from factories by installing protective filters. Using alternative energy source (wind, sun, water) would help preserve our country. Apparently, we are heading towards an ecological disaster. The wide range of emission sources means that action to combat pollution must be at a local, national, and international level.
