Once upon a time, there was a young prince. He knew that one day he would inherit a kingdom from his father, if
he was found to be worthy.
So he began diligently studying his father’s word and practicing his stand and speaking before the mirrors in his room. He began to go about the land making speeches, telling about the things that he had learned.
He said to himself "I will work hard to achieve greatness in my father’s eyes."
This young prince had a
servant
who helped him and served him well. This servant was always by his side.
One day a man came to the prince and said, "Sir, come and help your mother, for she is ailing."
The young prince said, "I don’t have time for this. Let one of my brothers’ go to her."
Then his servant said, "Let me go and minister to her needs, Sir Prince, for she was kind to me as a child."
So the prince bid him go.
All the while he worked harder and spoke to more people than before. It seemed that his fame had spread throughout the land.
After his mother was nursed back to health, his servant returned and had been with him for some time, when the Prince’s
brother
came to him.
"Brother Prince, I have not done well with what my father has given me, and hard times have befallen me," his brother said. "Please help me that I will not lose all that I have."
The Prince said, "Brother, I don’t have time for such things as this, all my money must be used that I can speak to many people, for this is an important work I do."
The servant of the prince said, "Sir, let me go with him for I will help to straighten out his finances and lend him what he needs out of my savings."
The prince bid him go, for he was very busy.
As time went on, many people came to the prince and his servant was there for them.
Then the day came for him to go before the king. The king said, "Son, have you prepared yourself to receive your kingdom?"
His son said, "Yes, father. I have worked hard and now I am ready."
So the king brought the prince before the people and said, "Will you have this man to be your king?"
They all said, "No, Lord, let his servant be our king. For he has ministered to our needs while your son only spoke words of greatness."
So the king, being wise, made the servant to be king and made the prince to be his servant.
He that exalteth himself shall be humbled and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. If a man can be trusted with small things God will trust him with great things.
