I don''t even like some Japanese
traditions that I was studying way back many years ago. Aside from its relevance to our
own country''s history, being one of the three countries that had conquered my own native land. I''d rather say that I prefer chinese culture more of than that of a Japanese.
But being one of those book lovers as you might also called a book worm, I began to learn more of Japanese
traditions that they are still practicing now. I had noticed some similarities in the traditions of the Chinese culture. The colorful robes that they are wearing embroidered with different ornaments is what they famously called as kimono. The tea parties that they are practicing to entertain guest and simple gatherings.
Curiosity gave its way for me to learn more or to dig deeper more about the Japanese culture. I came to read the novel of Arthur Golden, Memoirs of a Geisha. It wasn''t really a novel, it could be a biography or an autobiography. Arthur Golden had written his novel by the help of the main character herself, Nitta Sayuri. For many years she had work in cooperation with Arthur Golden for her story to be published once after her death arrived. She not only wanted her story to be known by many but also the story of geisha''s like her. Their sufferings, triumphs and the naked truth that lies beyond their colorful kimonos.
A geisha''s fate and popularity was the reason of their survival wherein a newly geisha''s
virginity was given to the highest bidder. Their life have no difference with that of a prostitute, a struggle for fame and beauty. They really have no freedom. As far as possible, they should forbid themselves to fall in love. Romance to the man they truly love has no room for their realistic world and it will forever lies in their illusion. Although some the geishas fall in love and marry, it would be either for love or for money.
