Work holism
Within the last 50 years, work holism has become an urgent problem in society not only in Asia but also
in Europe. It means addiction to work including loss of balance between essential elements of daily life. Diligent persons dedicate a lot of time to their jobs. This is usually connected with overworking which has a destructive influence on human body.
This sort of addiction is determined by inborn predispositions, family, religious or society standards. To trap usually fall ambitious people who like competing and winning. They work overtime because are intender achieving their goals at all costs. These employees are always not satisfied with the effort they put. The reason of it is an incessant aspiration for perfection.
Sometimes people try to escape from ordinary reality, forget about personal problems. Then the only cure is worth. Achieving successes in professional life can recompense these fields of life in which they do not come up to.
Workaholics consider that they are irreplaceable and fulfilling duties absorb them so much that these persons do not have free time, forget about families, friends, hobbies, important events or even about eating dinner. During holidays, they cannot stop thinking about work, relax, and calm down. Vacations are for them a terrible torment due to the statement that “a day off is a lost day”.
People addicted to work are usually welcome in big companies willingly. They are able to devote everything only to meet short of employer’s expectations. However, scientists say that after three years of hard work workaholic’s efficiency falls down about 60 percent. Then this person feels tired, faces with health problems, and is less creative and inventive. In other words, he or she becomes useless, breaks down, and reaches for alcohol or drugs very often.
In conclusion, work holism is one of the most important problems in society all over the world. Work makes us blind to many basic elements of our life. Then we do not have time for closest people. The results of it may be disastrous. That is why we should be aware that it is easy to exceed the limit between diligence and addiction.
