Young people should leave home at the age of 18.
I left my house when I was sixteen. My parents did not object about
that, because they thought it would be good for my education. However, did they do the best thing for my personality?
There are two sides of the problem. Leaving home at the young age makes the person more responsible and independent. Being on your own requests from you thinking about your finances, planning time and self-discipline, there is no mommy to tell you what to buy for the dinner or to do your homework.
On the other side, there are risks. Without family’s protection, you can meet inappropriate people who take drugs, smoke and drink a lot of alcohol.
I think that it is not good to tell your child “you are
eighteen now so you have to move out”. In Poland, we end high
school after our eighteen or even nineteen birthday so we are practically adults. It appears to me that we should definitely leave home after high school graduating. Then we should go to either college or university, or start to work and earn money. We should not use our parents’ patience and money, though they have an obligation to provide for their kids during their education.
