London Underground Poem/

Website Review by: SM THOMPSON

Previewing is a great job altogether and when you get it like me ... do it.
My poem is being showcased by Poetry Now
Peterborough UK and I am
thrilled absolutely to be selected yet again for publication in the UK.
My poem is entitled: London Underground and deals with a
regional theme here in the south.
The main line running through the freeverse form is following
the course of the London Underground Map and the opening
line ...
/slogging down the murky past/ wholly creates the view of
dropping down below street level towards a black tunnel
of concealed pictures and images in the London
Underground ... I have often travelled by Tube and
references are made to Hammersmith: Covent Garden: and
St. James ...
Often its a good idea to expand the theme of Underground
to refer to the notion of going places meeting people being
alive and well ...
/made your mark/
evocative of making an impression on an Oxford Man I met
recently outside Covent Garden Tube station.
/stand and deliver/ a phrase evocative of pressure of
travel ... waiting for the train to appear and the sense of
speed that the new London Underground creates in its
present form.
And finally another reference to the tube map as follows ...
/To Knightsbridge Praise Be/
taking one out to the night spots to meet with others of like
mine ... the odd male friend that one has at one''s beck and call or
the professional friend who works in a big hotel around the corner ...
i.e. The Chef or the Manager or Head Waiter ... often point me
in the right direction in terms of using the London Underground
when I have worked in London, comparatively recently ...
Excellent poetic references technically good and freeverse is a strong
point in this connection - certainly No: 1 in Free Verse ... in the UK ...
great stuff!
