To the author: Robert cutter was born 1961 in Bregenz and buildup in a
mountain
village in the rheitalischen alps, where he lives today as
free lance writers. From 1981 to 1986 it studied composition, history
of art and theatre sciences in Vienna. In order to become writers, it
broke the study off however. „Schlafes brother “appeared in the year
1992 and was a
world-wide success. It was translated so far into 24
languages. History plays in a mountain village of the reinthalischen
alps. In this village almost everything is related with one another and
in-breeding is here nothing special. The main person in the novel is a
musician Johannes Elias Alder, which takes itself with 22 years the
life. The reason for the suicide is its
love Elsbeth. Johannes Elias
Alder is born in the year 1803 as an illegitimate child in the mountain
village Eschberg in Vorarlberg. In this village there are only two
family trunks and therefore is nearly all children those to the world
comes there in-breeding damaged. Already with the birth of Johannes
Elias Alder arise to complications, since its heart does not want to

The inhabitants of the village have fear of him, although he is
friedfertiger humans. A further characteristic from Elias is that it
can already hear the heart impact of its large love Elsbeth, before
this is at all born. With the time Elias can reach each pitch. He can
speak even with animals and is in the conditions all voices of the
village inhabitants to be imitated. The women, him hear are of its

at the place. Johannes Elias Alder is a genius with an unusual gift for

the fact that he dies with 22 years. To its nut/mother it does not know
affectionate relationship. Its nut/mother felt never love for him,
hates one can say her him. It wishes itself instead of Elias a
mongoloides child. Elias may never affect its nut/mother and it forbids
to it also singing, since she does not want to hear its voice. To its
father Elias has however a better relationship. Its father loves it. It
cannot show it, but it likes it on its own Weise.Ein very close
relationship has Johannes Elias Alder however to its large love
Elsbeth. It feels that they are for each other intended. But Elsbeth
does not notice anything from its love to it, since he cannot say
directly it to her. With his cousin Peter connects it a lifelong
friendship. Peter is the only one, who recognizes those genius and the
gift of Elias. The village inhabitants call Elias yellow devil. They
believe it are possessed. For humans he is an outsider and its gift by
them is not recognized.
