I sat on the
black leather chair, patiently waiting for the lady to start washing my hair. The salon wasn’t as crowded as it normally would be, but again… It’s Wednesday and not Saturday.
Mom was almost done. Meanwhile, she was checking out wedding magazines,
trying to find a suitable dress for my sister who was busy working at the hospital. I was seriously starting to get bored, thus I just focused my attention on the two golden fishes, stupidly swimming in circles. A third one was there as well, gazing from behind the aquarium with its black eyes that perfectly matched its
gray texture. Suddenly mom called me… “Come here, check this dress out... your sister would surely like it”. Amused enough, the other two or three clients came to take a peek as well, showering us with their unnecessary opinions. When the page got turned, one of them jumped from behind me and poked me out of nowhere: “This one suits you!!”. Not assimilating what she had just burped, I turned towards mom who was entertainingly smiling… That lady was lucky; I had gotten up out of
bed directly to the hair dresser, thus my dizziness.
Finally, it was my turn. I sat on another black leather chair, with my neck leaning back and my head under the cool water. Holding my eye glasses in my right hand, everything seemed very blurry, therefore I just closed my eyes and listening to the mood around me. Abruptly in a clumsy gesture, the lady set all her energy into directing the water into my left ear… that even that gray
fish envied me! Soon enough she apologized and engaged in a new conversation so that I would forget about the waterfalls in my ear. So boringly, the only topic she could come up with was my diet and the sort of food I ate for the past six months. Trying to run away, I just surfed my cell phone, deleting some old SMS messages I had… mostly from Alfa.
Once done, I just hurried back home where mom had raced me. An hour later, I grabbed the keys to my car and left to Adonis to get my new photos shot. I stood there refusing to smile, as I really felt uncomfortable smiling for a passport photo. The photographer just
looked at me and said: “It''s not unusual to receive ladies like yourself”. I looked back all confused about what that guy was hinting. “Many girls do not like to pose for pictures and hate the camera”. I just smiled… What a stupid conclusion. I’m sure if he had time to surf the internet, he would bump into my couple of dozens albums and poses… Taking six different pictures, he just uploaded them all on photoshop and started to modify my facial expressions… Ten minutes later, I was holding 8 photos of a girl that somehow looks like me. I just left back home with the maid who went with me to get hers taken as well… However he only shot two of her. Six of me and two of her. People today just seemed to have gotten drunk or something as rare were those who were logically driving. I looked at her and she seemed so worried about being with me in the car for the first time. So I just stared at her and said: “I am the best driver in all Lebanon!”, right before I fell in a hole in the middle of the road. She looked back for three silent seconds trying to get what I had just said… and then she burst into laughter.
And now, I’m in my room with my grandmother asleep behind me on the bed. I’m just typing with the lights out, with a bottle of water next to me on the table. Hyper, the neighbor’s dog is barking on the balcony right under my room. I like Hyper… despite him constantly trying to eat Chancy. Tonight I’ll surrender to bed early. I think it would do me good.
