Hermia and Lysander doted each other. however, Hermia’s father, Egeus commanded a marriage between her daughter and Demetrius, a noble Athenian man. And due to a strict and odd law in Athens that the father is empowered by law to cause her daughter to be put to death upon refraction, Lysander stole her one night to bring him in his aunt to marry him. Hermia’s friend, Helena who told their secret to Demetrius, who then followed them both. The wood in which they proposed to meet was the favorite haunt of those little beings known as fairies. Oberon and Titania, the king and queen of fairies always had disagreements and in that night, the cause was Titania’s refusing to give Oberon a little changeling boy, whose mother had been Titania’s friend; and upon her death, stole the child from its nurse. Upon her refusal, Oberon ordered Puck, his chief favorite and privy counselor to do some mischief to Titania by pouring some juice from a flower on her eyelids to dote on the first thing she sees, whoever and whatever it will be. Oberon observed how Demetrius overlooked Helena as they were entering the woods, felt pity for the young lady. And he ordered Puck to do the same to them. However, Puck was mistaken to pour it to Lysander and upon waking up, Lysander had great affection to Helena, who is the first one she saw and started saying words of affection to her. Oberon, having found the person first intended, touched the eyelids of the sleeping Demetrius with the love juiceand instantly awoke , the first thing he saw being Helena. The astonished Helena thought that they were making jest of her friend, Hermia, who is likewise confused with what is happening. In this scenario, everyone was furious, getting Oberon to remedy what he ordered and Puck making amends of his former mistakes. Hermia first awoke and finding her lost Lysander asleep so near her. Helena and Demetrius were by this time awake; she listening with delight to the professions of love Demetrius still made to her, she began to perceive well sincere. Oberon and Titania were perfectly reconciled upon realization of his plan through Puck who finally obtained the little boy. The fairy king and queen, who were invisible spectator of the lovers’ reconciliation saw the happy endings of the lover’s history – putting an end to Hermia’s threat of execution and most importantly, to be in the arms of those they love.
