In the palace of Messina, there lived a governor, Leonato who had a daughter with serious disposition, Hero and his niece
with a mirthy attitude, Beatrice. Claudio who had affection with Hero, connived with one another to plot Beatrice and his friend, Bennedict who are then very busy jesting each other. Before the marriage between the two lovers, Claudio entered with great satisfaction into his whim of the prince and Leonato promised them his assistance and even Hero said she would do any modest office to help her cousin to a good husband. Letting both overhear that one love the other and vice versa, who first thought impossible, these old enemies converted into new and loving friends. However, the fate of poor Hero was the reverse. Before their nuptial arrived, Don John,
brother of Don Pedro, came into scene. He hated his brother so much including his friend, Claudio that he wanted to impede the
wedding by plotting a wicked plan. He employed Brochio, who then pay court to Margaret, Hero’s attendant, who was dressed like Hero. Claudio who was assisted to see the plot against Hero, believing it was really her, disgreaced poor Hero in her wedding day. She fainted, to all appearance dead. The friar who was too wise to discover that Hero could not do such disgrace – seeing other guy in a dark place at midnight, suggested to report the death of Hero, although not true to divulge the real feelings of Claudio for her girl. A magistrate brought Borachio as prisoner before the prince after uttering to his companions of the mischief he had been employed by Don John to do so. This made Claudio’s heart rally crashed for the he thought the death of her beloved is all rooted on him. Asking forgiveness to Leonato, which he afterwards gave, was with an agreement to marry the next morning a cousin of Hero, who he said was in person very like Hero. Claudio to his surprise saw Hero as her bride in that morning and was the same girl being arranged by her father for him. Bennedict, interrupted the marriage, desired to be married at the same time to Beatrice even after discovery that they’ve been tricked into a belief of love. And Don John, the contriver of the villany , disappointed of his plots was brought back to Messina to see the joy and feastings taking place at the palace of Messina.
