Rebecca Bloomwood, a young and elegant journalist is unable
to ballance her expences. The irony of the
situation consists in the fact that her job is to give people advice about how to manage their income and their
expenses.
Already in debt with the bank she cannot help herself from buying fashionable and expensive things. She invents all sorts of lies to avoid the confrontation with the staff of her bank, who try to talk to her about her account situation. Her credit card is finally blocked and this is a shock for her.
Rebecca is the type of non-conventional and uncommon woman and many of the situations she finds herself in as well as the way in which she reacts to them are attractve by their being unusual and a little bit strange. She applies for a job where she has to speak finnish but she doesn''t know a word in finnish. Another example: she participates in meetings with editors from diferent financial magazines and representatives from banks but she doesn''t pay attention to what is discussed there.
However, eventually, after many and varied experiences everything turns out well for Rebecca and the ending of the novel is a optimistic one.
