A common black family
Kenny is a small African American boy living in Flint, Michigan. His older brother Byron (AKA Daddy Cool) is always picking on him. Byron gets some help from his stuck up friend, Buphead. The family get''s a tab at the local food store. Byron takes advantage of this, and buys everything he wants for weeks. Byron has wanted to get a hair ''do'' for a while. His parents tell him to leave it as it is, and he goes out and gets Buphead to give him a buzz cut and die his hair. The parents are sick of him messing around, so they say they are going to take him to Birmingham and leave him there with the awful, strict, legendary Grandmas Sands for the summer. He protests all he wants, but they go anyway. Mrs. Watson (Kenny and Byron''s mother) creates a notebook called THE WATSONS GO TO BIRMINGHAM-1963, which is an almost minute-by-minute plan of their car trip to Birmingham. While in Birmingham, a bomb goes off in Kenny and Byron''s sister, Joetta''s sunday school class. They think she is dead, but she went outside to get some air when the bomb was set off. They decide not to leave Byron after all because of the incident. This is the best book in the entire world, and the author describes everything so well. You really should take the time to read it!!!!!!!
