Article Summary by: Moreno132

Original Author: Thomas More
Thomas More was an English lawyer, writer and a politician. He was born in London to a successful
lawyer, but abandoned his law career to become a monk. More practiced many monastic practices as a monk and finally become a family man. In 1517 More entered king''s Henry the VIII service as a councilor, and after that became the personal advisor of the king, and in 1523 became the speaker of the house of commons.
More dedicated his time to reexamine and revitalize Christian theology by studying the bible. In 1515 More wrote his most famous work, the "Utopia", where More contrasts and doubts the cultural and social life of the European Christian world. In the "Utopia" More describes a different society with religious tolerance and with no private property. As an advisor of the king, More also helped to write the "defense of seven sacraments", a polemic against Protestantism, this emphasizes More''s Catholicism. He was against the Protestants and believed that they become a threat to the order of the Christian Europe.
In the 6th of July 1535 More was executed in the charge of high treason for denying the authority of the king over the church. More doubted the authority of the king over church long before; he believed that God is the only authority over church.
