The 12th
Planet Author; Zecharia Sitchin Yes, yes, I know the book is nigh on 20years old, and was first published
amidst a cloud of controversy, but hey, don’t we live in a more forgiving and open society these days? More open to accepting contentious issues that are socially, morally and religiously debatable and, having the maturity of seeing another side of the proverbial coin? I think so, hence my bold rendition on the books contents. The 12th
Planet is book one of Sitchin’s “Earth Chronicles, both fascinating and disturbing at the same
time. Not an easy read at the best of times, but intriguing enough to keep one happily reading on. Sitchin basis the book on the Sumerian Texts, which he expertly translates for us into modern day language and, after years of intensive research, spices it up along the way with his own interpretation of what it all means. It certainly is a revolutionary book calling to count age-old questions that have been baffling priests, poets and scientists for many a millennium. Do we really have forefathers that have come from another planet circling our very own solar system? Have we as humans, been genetically engineered by them, for their own selfish gain? Indeed, who was this Adam character, and in whose image was he really made? According to the Sumerian texts, which, it appears, are the oldest texts known to man, all this was pretty common knowledge, Hell, even the Mesopotamian texts, a watered down version on the Sumerian texts and a forerunner to our modern day bible, knew of such things! The question is, why don’t we? Time, to take the blinkers off and have a jolly good look at some very ancient works. We just might find a few mystifying and perplexing answers along the way. Personally, I think Sitchin covers the fundamental issues amicably, and the book is well laid out with diagrams and pictures and has a comprehensive reference source at the back of the book for the more learned scholar. However, as with all controversial subjects, one has to rely heavily on one’s own gut feel to know if all that is revieled in the book is absolute fact or science fiction. If you have an open mind, like a readable challenge, and suffer with an incurable curiosity for ancient texts, give it a go, guaranteed you will be as fascinated as I was!
