Marikina city, one of the most competitive metro city in the Philippines for 2003, has a numerous local attractions to offer the public. It has an AMPITHEATER situated beside the Marikina River, a venue for big social gatherings and festivities, an annual concert and grand fireworks display is held here every 30th of December. The SENTRONG PANGKULTURA, a two-century old building once owned by Don Laureano Guevara, where the first pair of shoes in Marikina was made. TEATRO MARIKINA, a fully-airconditioned theater with 1,100 seating capacity, a perfect venue for various events such as conferences, seminars, trade exhibits, plays and local concerts for local artists and art lovers. The RIVER PARK equipped with kilometers of concrete jogging lane that stretches along the river that has park benches, picnic and camping grounds and a skating rink. Along the jogging lane are shrines and monuments that have their own stories to tell. One of the best designed sports venue in the country, the MARIKINA SPORTS PARK, include in its amenities is an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a covered gymnasium, a tartan track oval and a grandstand that can accommodate a crowd of 15,000.
Be dazzled on its WORLD OF BUTTERFLIES, a 2000 square foot conservatory where thousand of different butterfly species flies freely. Enclosed in concrete, steel and nylon netting, beautifully landscaped with foliage, pools, waterfalls and rock formation that imitates the tropical forest. Definitely, the SHOE MUSEUM, wherein it houses a collection of shoes from prominent personalities, including those hundreds of pairs that former First Lady Imelda Marcos owned. The museum also features an exciting trip to the living legacy dedicated to the unflagging hard work and ingenuity of the locals. A DOLL MUSEUM, located at the Marikina Sports Park that shows 43 dioramas of activities of the new and old Marikina that makes you glimpse on the history and culture of the city.
