Jami Lin has successfully combined astrology, architecture, interior design, feng shui, earth geometry, magnetic forces, and chi, the energy that is within and without us and our earth, into a field called Earth Design, which she writes about in this enlightening book. I have never read a book that describes it in such simplistic easy-to-understand terms, with pictures and drawings to help visualize the unseen forces which are surrounding us and connecting us all together.
Jami Lin explains the term geomancy, which is “the law of balance and proportion combined with the spirit or energy that connects all form.” This is the practice of using energy to live a harmonious life. She explains that Feng Shui is “4,000 year old Chinese geomancy”. The Chinese developed it through their awareness of the natural laws of energy flow, or chi. When there are blockages to the natural flow of chi, we can get blockages in our lives. By placing items from the five elements (fire, earth, water, air and fire) in strategic areas in your home based on the Bagua, which is based on the energies of 8 directions, you can free up the energy blockages and improve the quality of your life. When the Bagua overlay is placed over the floor plan of your home, based on direction, each of the areas represent one of these aspects of your life: family, health, fame, marriage, children, helpful people, career and knowledge. These aspects of your life can be improved, if you are experiencing difficulties, by strategically placing objects from the different elements in those areas.
Jami Lin covers history, definitions, the different types of feng shui, the connections between the various previously mentioned fields and gives many tips for improving the flow of chi in your home or office. This is an excellent summary and introduction into the fascinating field of energy flow.
