The way one addresses people has become a target from one side of the world to the other ... for example I belong to the
school of address that creates a freedom of
form ... its
possible to call Chris Woodhead ... Chris Woodhead and not get your head chopped off ..... Chris Woodhead is incidentally a Professor Its possible to
refer to Ian McMillan as such as he too is a Professor and not get swept under the carpet of rejectionism.
English Language and Literature has a fluidity that allows a movement back and forth in time ... there was a point in history when early in my career I learnt how to address
Lord So and So as Lord So and So and Dr Blogs as Dr Blogs with few exceptions.
When Dr. Blogs became the family doctor we referred to him as Dr. Tom ... and so on down the line.
My own name is somewhat dull in comparison to those so far described but neverthelss for the sake of argument its possible to address me as .........Stella Thompson even though my official title is: Mrs. Thompson . most of this is all included and adds to the variety and texture of English Language and Literature ..... great stuff .. keep on blogging.
