This is one of the most inspiring books I have ever read. It is a story of a hot-tempered young boy who is a poor performer
in class but later grows up into one of the most respected and renowned pediatric
neurosurgeon. He performs surgeries that others cannot dare try!
The book begins by giving details of his childhood: happy family of four, breakup of his parents, mentally-disoriented mum, hardworking mum after recovery, Carson's poor
performance in class, mum's plan for her two sons to alleviate their performance in class, Carson the bad-tempered boy, turn-round of Carson's performance in class and Carson the competitive boy. He wins a highly competitive scholarship to Yale University to study Medicine and later becomes a resident at John Hopkins Hospital and an employee thereafter. Carson becomes a Director of pediatric neurosurgeon at John Hopkins Hospital at the age of 33.
He is an inspiration to young and less-privileged people. The authors cite several fascinating surgeries that Carson is involved in, which make headlines! However, the authors emphasize Carson's respect for team work. The Carson story has several lessons, one of which is "There's always room for improvement". Another lesson is "Hard work yields positive results", and so on.
