The planet Mars
revolves about the sun at a mean distance or 140 million miles, and the light
and the heat receives from the sun, is barely half of that received, by this
world. It must be, if the nebular hypothesis has any truth, older than our
world; and long before this earth ceased to be molten, life upon its surface
must have begun its course The fact that it is scarcely one seventh the volume
of the earth must have accelerated its cooling to the temperature at which life
could begin. It has air and water and all that is necessary for the support of
animated existence.
A human being
is a humdrum metaphor of both the body and mind. The mind corresponds, in its
experimental aspect to time and body by virtue of its pure location to the
three-dimensional space. Obviously, taken together an observer is a
four-dimensional entity. And since the world is seen by an observer to be
three-dimensional, it is proof enough that the world is a shadow of the human
mind which itself is a shadow of some still higher dimensional reality. There
is thus a loss of at least one dimension in the hierarchy of layered reality,
which is a sine qua non to the formation of a shadow. Not only that it brings
about a shift of the focus of attention but also introduces an agony of
ignorance to the body-mind system of man. And Maya becomes an
inseparable factor of physical reality. She makes us roam wildly across the
murky land of mind, chasing madly a mirage that makes us feel emptier and an
inner emptiness engenders fear. Fear drives the mind to the future and the joy
of the "now" recedes to the past. Thus, faced with the shadowy world
of the ignorant mind we keep oscillating between fading images and dying
pleasures. We are moving and living, beyond doubt, in a shadow world.
Fearlessness
Is True Godliness:
We know that
Fearlessness is courage. But the Upanishads repeatedly say that Fearlessness is
God. "Abhayam vy brahma "; because God-knowledge is self knowledge
and vice-versa. When you know God you know you know your self. When you know
yourself truly and in full you know you know God. Self knowledge is Progressive
evolution and it starts from being honest and sincere to one. Without being
true to oneself in the first place, self-knowledge is a nonstarter. In
progressive evolution, knowing oneself and being true to oneself are complimentary
and in a deeper sense one and the same. One cannot know oneself without being
true to oneself and be true to oneself without knowing oneself. To know oneself
and be true to oneself, which are essentially one and the same, one needs
courage. In fact, it is for this that one needs courage most of all. It is here
that courage fails humanity more often than not. Sometimes one may have the
courage to stand up to any threat or adversity, but one may not have the
courage to know and be true to oneself. Often we are dauntless with the whole
world but are cowards with ourselves. We keep cringing before our innermost
selves. We keep lying to ourselves. We refuse to admit follies and foibles. We
refuse to admit failures and foist them on others or other things. It is when
we are cowards with ourselves that we make escapists of ourselves.
