A study of History

Book Review by: madhuprem

Original Author: Arnold Toynbee
There are
reinterpretations of mankind''s earliest moments, as the science reveals more
secrets of the nature
world and the space above which, has a major part to
play; it brings home the point that ancient sages'' guesses were matching with
the truths now being revealed. Sages did not merely have shoulders; there were
surely chips on them. They developed special art of Yoga, to control the
malfunctions of their sinuses, and to keep rudimentary alimentary system free
form trouble; for, meditation was very necessary to make mind travel inward in
search of soul. Because this soul searching did the trick, their minds
traversed light-years during the time when Earth was considered prehistoric.
The mankind''s conscious was undergoing evolutionary changes they were probing
into Galactic paths. (This relates to the Milky Way Galaxy). Good path finders
didn''t begin with certainly, but they appeared confident enough in their search
for the Reality. Fire "Agni" represents "Big Bang": This
prompted the man to bow in reverence; also to turn inward for solution. In Mahabharata,
Sage Vyasa called Agni "Panchajanya"; the concept is rendered
philosophical, for Vyasa, in acknowledging and attributing the art of making
fire to five ever greats namely, Kashyapa, Vasishtha, Pran, Anigirasa, and Chyavana
(Chyavana was a great sage from the family of Bhrugu; and prana also means
ancient).
So for Hindus,
the cosmic phenomena are gods, sages with god like attributes are gods Rama, Vishnu,
Krushna representing cosmic principles are gods. It was, as Max Muller
(1823-1900) Brit. (Gen-born) philologist, put it, a case of Henotheism: The
worship of one god without denying the existence of other gods. This led to the
concept of interpreting cosmic phenomena. Sages called it "Ruta, depicting
incessant dynamism. It is a universal clock. It maintains speed to keep seen
and unseen things at specific distance relatively. One that looses the speed becomes
non-existent.
Idle mind or
body will destroy the good qualities in human beings. No speed, no vibrations,
hence no energy creation cycle will be maintained. Even a star dies!
Interpretation made by Science through its various disciplines and
juxtaposition of ancient thought with the search for truth, to obtain food for survival
was also a necessary occupation. "Sankhya" explained the theory of
evolution to a certain extent; even today, man is reliant on the natural environment
to sustain his existence.
Environment
changed since its creation and has gone through division and subdivision,
involving radiant energy into finite quanta, and could be calculated that is
the definition of Sankhya. Nature does not agitate by itself; it is Purusha,
that is the cause of its agitation; yet Purusha is not affected nor influenced
by Nature and its absurdities. Three things happen; New things are created they
reach their peak of good or bad, they die off. Purusha stands for the sole
observer and non commenter, and does not seem to appreciate what goes on. Man
understands Purusha through his conscience. The great sages of Vedic Era may have
said, "Let conscience be sole judge!" God is visualized in many ways.
God is one who loves all intensely, begins perceiving in all living beings a
part of himself; and he who conceiving the self as a part of the universal soul,
does not look down on anyone. He never hates anyone and never is a victim to
hatred, grief or sorrow. He becomes a part and parcel of the universal joy. He
flows with the stream of happiness and is enriched by each loving soul; this is
how it is written in Yajurveda.
