Website Review by: SM THOMPSON

Russian Literature was a great favourite with myself and others during my College days and in particular I was keen on Yevgeny
Yevtusheno and all that high culture which invaded my life ..  I had started with Macbeth and used to give readings at home of the Lady Macbeth part when my neighbours decided to lend me a sword to take with me to College with a view of entering the dramatic debate to include the Army''s point of view on swords!  I did! The sword from my neighbours which I borrowed - positively raised the roof!
But it was Russian Literature that stole the show later on when I got my 3 degrees and qualified in the UK and Europe.  In particular Puskin the great Russian Poet was translated and we learnt a bit of Russian at home and did a lot of practice with the words on the page.  However, Tolstoy was never to be forgotten and I read Anna Karenina twice at home and found the richness of the Russian novel left me with a yearning to see Moscow and other parts of Russia but alas! I never ventured forth out there as I had to stay at home and bring up the family.  But I did have a Russian partner in Turkey and can you imagine it ... she was really keen to share with me the joyous experience of Shakespeare''s plays and poems ... and for me it was Russian Literature which did the trick .... Wonderful literature ... from Russia .... with a view of the modern writer too i.e.
Solzenitsyn .... The First Circle was to good to put down and I gave my friends a taste of my enthusiasm for Russian Literature and got a 1st as a result .... Great literature!
