According to BBC Radio 4 there has been quite a deal of fuss about the reading skills of
children in this country and
in spite of what Gordon Brown the Prime Minister is doing in this connection a group of famous authors took up the issue and have come on air to discuss the failing standards of
children''s reading ... and claims that reading has not improved since the 1950s.
Reading for children according to Ian Rankin a leading author is not because they dont get enough books to read as there are plenty of good children''s book and children''s literature around its more to do with their lack of reading skills.
I suppose it takes great authors to draw attention to the shortcomings of the children of this country but reading as a skill is taught in Primary School, though I could read at 3 I suppose not a lot of children in Mainland UK can read at 3. Probably its the effect of
television which stops the child from spending time struggling with the words in a book when the television has an instant visual communication ... switch off the television or get rid of it and back to your reading of great books in the UK .... keep on reading .
