Ibsen was the voice of an age who spoke for the cause of
freedom for
woman. Perhaps, he was a motive force behind the latter years woman’ movement. Long before the so
called feminism found its ideological stand, Ibsen’s woman characters had fought for identity and equality. Among them the most vibrant was Nora, in A Doll’s House, the play shot him to international fame. It was pertinently political thus we come to know that the woman’s yearning for freedom and identity had certain politics about it. It was no longer a fight for getting the husband managing the kitchen but bringing him only a partner for the establishment called
family. So the play A Doll’s House poses several questions and the Nora is a representative of women all over the world. It was Ibsen who first introduced the scenic effect on the stage and the marked the beginnig of all changes in the western
drama.Bernad Shaw's approach to both themes and drama was largely influenced by Ibsens
plays.Among his plays the most praised one was A Doll's House for the
play used social realism as its subject matter and he really wanted to open the eyes of people. To a great extent he was a crusader against the denial of human values; as result his works withstand time.
