Write your abstract here. The Island On Bird Street is about a young boy named Alex who lives in the Jewish
ghetto. Alex is eleven years old when his father leaves him to find Alex''s mother. But before his father left he showed Alex how to use his gun and where to wait for him to return. Alex feels lonely as he has dreams where he can see his father smiling, but he cannot reach him. Alex has to fight to stay alive as he is almost always hungry, but he manages to keep scraping out enough food to survive. Alex has a mouse that he named Snow. One day Snow finds food in a hideout and when Alex goes to collect the food someone else is taking it. They chase him until they finally decide to let him have some food and they leave him a little. Eventually Alex''s father returns. He comes to the spot where he told Alex to wait, but Alex doesn''t show himself at first because he had stopped believing long ago that his father would return. He finally comes out of hiding and laughs and cries with his father. Alex''s father shows him a gun he took from a German. Alex''s father lets Alex keep the gun he gave him when he left to look for Alex''s mother.
