Dr
Don Miller used hundreds of articles for research for his book Drug Wars. An article by Randy Dotinga (Health
Day Reporter) caught my attention because where alcohol is legal, many don't realize the danger of alcohol. Studies from psychiatry professor Dr. Robert Cloniger, Assistant Research Professor of Psychology Aaron White and Research Assistant Adele McKinney shows how harmful alcohol really is. Heavy
drinking not only makes you feel lousy the
following day but also makes it
hard to
learn new things or remember things you already know. Hangovers are known to make it hard to function the following day but new studies show that it's still hard to function even after all the booze has been processed and the blood-alcohol level had reached zero. They've learned that the reason hangovers make you feel exhausted, sick, uncomfortable and even emotionally unstable is because alcohol is actually a poison and your body has to work extremely hard using a lot of energy to process it out of the body. Even after it is processed out you may still be left feeling nausea, fatigue and dehydration impairing your ability to function, learn and lack
memory and concentration. They suggest ways to limit the discomfort of the hangover by drinking water or non-alcoholic beverages in between drinking alcoholic beverages to fight off dehydration and then take and aspirin and wait it out. This remedy helps comfort the hangover, unfortunately there is no trick for the damage alcohol does to your brain's ability to learn and memory problems. I found this article very interesting because alcohol is just as addictive and dangerous as illegal drugs but people don't look at it as being harmful because of it legality. In reality alcoholism is just as severe as drug addiction and feeling sick the following day is not the only consequence it has. It damages your brain's learning capacity and effects your memory and concentration.
