SparkNotes books and SparkNotes.com exist to help
students learn and practice basic skills, write a paper,
study for a test and achieve their academic goals. We believe that doing well in school and
learning is its own reward, and that learning is more than just getting a diploma from a brand name college.
Created by Harvard students for students everywhere and geared to what today''s students need to know, SparkNotes study
guides are the perfect aid for studying and writing papers. Each guide contains thorough summaries and insightful critical
analysis of a nearly endless range of
subjects including English
literature, Shakespeare, History and Math and Science. We offer hundreds of study guides for free to read on the web, and many SparkNotes and SparkCharts as downloadable, printable PDFs.
And it doesn''t stop there. We built our name with literature guides, but SparkNotes has even more to offer high school and college kids. No matter what the subject—The SAT, English Grammar, Spanish, Chemistry—SparkNotes will help you figure it out fast, and have fun doing it. Check out our boutique at Barnes & Noble.com.
SparkNotes is proud to be a part of the Barnes & Noble publishing group.

Who writes SparkNotes?
The writers of SparkNotes are top students or recent graduates who specialize in the subjects they cover. SparkNotes writers approach literature with a passion and an enthusiasm that inspires students and has won over parents and teachers worldwide.
The name of the author of an online SparkNote can be found on the home page of that note, in the gray bar at the bottom of the table of contents. The author of a print SparkNote can be found on the copyright page of that note. For additional information on how to cite a SparkNote in a research paper, see our citations page.
SparkNotes and Education
We at SparkNotes love the subjects we write about—we publish study aids to enhance and encourage learning, never to substitute for careful, thorough reading of class materials. We think that SparkNotes are an excellent way to supplement your understanding of great works of literature, which can often be extremely confusing. We have always aimed to support and improve education, not undermine it.
We believe that the content of SparkNotes reflects this philosophy—our analysis sections are detailed and longer than our summaries, and the supplementary sections, such as "Character Analysis" and "Themes, Motifs, and Symbols" are scholarly secondary material that can be invaluable when developing paper ideas or writing papers. SparkNotes are there to help you understand literature—not as a substitute for it.
SparkNotes adamantly condemns cheating and plagiarism in any form. Read more about our stance on plagiarism, and how to avoid it. Educators, we encourage you to visit our Educators'' website for more information on using SparkNotes in the classroom.
