WHO MOVED MY
CHEESE- WHAT THE BOOK SAYS?
This is a brilliant parable by Dr. Spencer Johnson which explores the freedom of
thoughts, the benefit of adapting to
change and the disadvantages of consistency or fear of unknown. It dispels with the common myths associated with change namely:
1.Change cannot be anticipated .
2.Change is difficult.
3.Change is fearsome .
4.Change is futile.
This story revolves around four characters trapped in a
maze .Two little human beings
called Hem and Haw and two
mice called Sniff and Scurry. These four beings are constantly in quest for cheese-their basis of sustenance, their purpose in life, their ultimate destiny. The mice are relatively shallow but hardworking and open to ideas. They sweat and slog, assessing their progress on a continual basis , act accordingly. It was this alertness of mind and diversity of thoughts that they noticed their depleting stock of cheese and moved on in search of greener pastures. They found more cheese and lived happily. As for the humans, Hem and Haw, even with their excellent reasoning and analytical abilities and superior intelligence failed to anticipate their dearth of stocks. One fine day, they awoke to discover that all the cheese were gone. They starved for days but failed to adapt to the magic ingredient called change. They were scared to venture out of the safety of their cocoon to a world of the unknown.
One of the humans , Haw, however drew enough courage and inspiration from within and left home in exploration. This exploration of the maze revealed new sources of abundant cheese. The mice were already there nibbling happily at the cheese. They welcomed Haw into the treasure. And they all lay waiting for the lethargic Hem who would one day catch up with them and be able to share their cheese if any is left by then.
Dr .Spencer Johnson dwells upon the brilliant concept called Change ,Be it any situation, any relationship, or any individual ,change never fails to brighten u up. Simply put the book says that:
1.Life is a maze of unexplored avenues ,the pursuit of which leads us to abundant sources of delicious cheese stocks called opportunities.
2.The discovery of this cheese lies with the attitude of the individual. An individual has to keep open thoughts and an alert mind.
3.He has to explore and experiment in order to succeed, even though what lies ahead may be fearsome.
4.If he loses, he gains the self satisfaction of followed his will and for having worked towards his goal. If he succeeds, he is the happiest.
Concluding ,
there is no better antidote to misfortune than change .
