Madam Inés against forgetfulness

Book Review by: Tere25

Original Author: Torres, Ana Teresa
This abstract was translated from Doña Inés contra el olvido
It is written by a XVIII century''s venezuelan colonial phantom. Through Madam Inés she relates an experience lived by
a slave that escapes with her mistress and her children, who were Madam Inés'' descendant and who rescues the little girl, unique Madam Inés''descendant , on her Caracas''scape from Boves pursuit ( Intrahistory introduction) which converts the slave in an heroin, a woman and inferior social class.
So, this phantom is in search of her land heiress''recovery, lands that belonged to her father and inherited by her, granted by her husband to his son with a slave, without asking her consent only bye the fact of being a man and her husband.
Through all the novel, she is the only one who dialogues, addressing Alejandro''s phantom, her husband. Men doesn´t have a word, although she fights with Juan del Rosario, her husband''illegitimate son, for her lands.
Women are the ones who dialogue through the protagonist monodialogue.
The novel is divided in three parts: First Part:1715-1835, Secon Part: 1846-1935, Third Part: 1935-1985: and either this parts are subdivided in titled chapters.
Is a fresh novel,  full of feminists messages, that reveals us the history narrated by people below that has a central theme of the lady´s lands litigation.
The lady fights with Spain''s King and express her inconformity with the laws and the femenine genus limits, she shows her interest in being a woman for her husband, accepting the condition of living together with slaves that lives with them in her house, alternating with her husband.
It ends solving the lands litigation on an unexpected way.
The unique Madam Inés descendant''salvation, her great granddaughter Isabel , rescued by Daría, the slave, is recognized as such by the priest Who baptized the child, and the action is represented in a famous painter''s picture that is placed in the living room where Belén, narrates the success to her four nefhews and nieces. Do you see the litlle girl? said  Belén, she was mi grandmother Isabel...
