My Name is not Johnny

Book Review   by:Sandra Bordignom     Original Author: Sandra Bordignom

The whole world already must have heard that theory of that “true” the great dealers of Rio De Janeiro live comfortably in apartments in the Carioca South Zone, not in the mounts. When the sub-heading of My Name is read is not Johnny - the Real Trip of a Son of the Bourgeoisie to the Elite of the Traffic, of Guillermo Fiuza (Publishing company Record, 336 pages), it can be thought that we are ahead of a case of these - that is, of a really great dealer with bourgeois education. I feel to disappoint the partisans of this theory of the conspiracy, but counted history in this excellent book is a little different. My Name is not Johnny counts to the history of João Guillermo Estrella, well born youngster who likes to touch musics in its violão and that early he started if to involve in the artistic way. From the convivência with the “group” they come the first experiences with drugs. First marijuana, later the LSD and then the cocaine - that it finishes vitiating it. As it needs each time bigger amounts for proper consumption, it it starts to vender dust (still in small scale) to arrange money. This makes it to enter in contact with some dealers and the thing goes increasing.Estrella arranges projects to traffic amounts directly each time bigger of Bolivia: the cocaine that it obtained there - nicknamed “Nelore Pure” - was purest of the market of drugs in the River of the time (final of the years 80/início of the 90).
Joining the great knowledge of the Carioca society that has João Guillermo Estrella (it always it are a sociable and likeable citizen extremely) with the insuperável quality of its dust, is obvious that the result alone can be one. The youngster of the South Zone changeds itself into a great wholesaler of drugs, arriving to make trips for Amsterdam to make great vendas of “Pure Nelore” in the Europe). E, clearly, in this time all it continues ingesting fenomenais amounts of cocaine. But if Estrella already starts to be a great dealer in amount terms, in violence terms it cannot be compared with the chefões of the mount. Impulsive, little if mattering with the consequences of its acts, it does not not only have personal security as at least he walks armed. Soon the Law is behind it. On the first time it obtains to get away with the policy through bribe. In the other this is not more possible. He is imprisoned, receiving a conviction light, a great moment of the female judge who condemned it - therefore it, acertadamente, believed the character of João Guillermo Estrella. But nor for this the suffering that the protagonist passes, as much in the chain how much in the judiciary lunatic asylum, they are small. All these bad moments finish helping the youngster of the South Zone if to redeem. Currently, it works as producing musical comedy, does not traffic more and is recouped of the vice of the cocaine.
My Name is not Johnny (the heading is based on the notice of the Periodical of Brazil; when of the arrest of the dealer, the daily Carioca wrote that its nickname was Johnny - what never it are truth) is a workmanship extremely written well, in a simple, direct and involving language. It is the type of the difficult book to stop to read. Another quality is that, at no moment, the author Guillermo Fiuza seems to want to give a lesson of moral to the readers. Fiuza nor needs this, in the truth. History speaks for itself.
