"The Money Shot: The Wild Nights and Lonely Days Inside The Black Porn Industry."

Book Review by: Stine69

Original Author: Lawrence C. Ross-Jr.
After all the months of hype, promotion, pre-sales, hoping and waiting, for the book to come in either thru Borders, Barnes
& Noble or on line: the only way, I had gotten my hands, on one of these little hot numbers, was thru a friend who had already read it.
Hey, I have always been a writer most of my adult life, so I have been always a bit more prepared, than the average person, to accept what I see inside of book; not just what I expect to see.
What I read was what one writer saw, heard and experienced thru his eyes, when he was doing interviews with these performers, over the time when he was doing research for his book.
This book is very raw and straight to the facts about what happens to performers within the adult industry.

About how their public persona is portrayed to how many of them either end up with a true person/friend, who might care about them, to being alone when they turn the key to open the door, at night, to an empty home, at the end of the day due to the profession they have chosen to be in.
They also might be shunned by family members, friends, or others who may choose not to understand why they do this for a living or a creative way to express themselves.
More so for an adult performer of color, as well.
''This is an industry not for the lighthearted or weak of stomach either!''

Most people get in because they have no other skills/education in life.
Others do have skills/education but love the attention they get and are honestly true about being in the industry.
''They are not shy to show it, either and it''s not all about being hard up or on hard on your luck either.''
You can already see this is a dog-eat-dog-world and the one with the most unique/different skills usually ends up with the a king''s ransom and can pick and choose where and when to do whatever they want to do.
If you''re a(n) adult performer of color; it''s still even harder.
The industry, still has a stigma about ''interracial sex scenes'', who should be in what film/DVD and if this performer is a money maker with the main stream public or not.
All in all, this is a good book, but I still have a nagging feeling that all the information, the author had to put in the book is not all that true.
''My thoughts are based upon what I have/had read, things I have seen or heard from friends who are involved in the adult industry, and why it took so long for the release of this book in the first place?''

Did and when the author put in his suggestions, about this book, to the editor, was there just some problems with the manuscript that the editor did not like or was he made, at the last minute, to change some of the wording that he had originally put in?
What I would like to add, is this: ''Was it done to spice up the sales of the book, to make it more appealing to the public or was it just a fluke on his part? ''
I ask because I waited and waited for this book to be put out (The date of release was always being moved up since I was told the author had not approved of its release date; so this always leaves me wondering if he was all but truthful with his interviewees.), so I, as a reader and a writer, could see what I would glean from this work of this author.
I have to honestly say that day never arrived and by the time I had gotten a copy, loaned to me, of this book to read, by then even through I still wanted to read it, the thrill had gone and left me cold inside.
I have to say that I have learned a bit more, about what is going on in the porn industry.
I have to also include that not all people will get a fair or right chance if they work in this iwho do work in this, look sometimes, older than their age with pre-mature white/grey hairs or aging; this is sad for me to honestly state....they look very rough and hardened.
But what I have learned is this, be sure if anyone is going to interview you for a book, they are doing research for, to get a copy of what has been said, on tape or other wise.
Make sure, what you were interviewed for, is actually being put into the book before it''s published; you as the interviewee have this right to refuse what is used or not used for any author''s book.
So draw up a legal and binding contract first(A ''Release Of Knowledge Contract'')!
This was a good and informative book (But I have seen/read better.), and yes at times kind of honest, but as a writer, myself, I feel with all the truth involved, there was some embellishment involved too for better sales of this book!
As I say, to everyone that does an interview with any writer, do one thing...C.Y.A. (Cover Your A**) at all times, but these are just my/one person''s thoughts, too.
