THE LUSTY LADY

Book Review   by:TRANSCRIBER     Original Author: ERIKA LANGLEY

"First day of work, bleary eyed, talking to a dancer named Cat, obviously for her eyes…The day starts with three girls and works its way up to five. I appreciate Cat’s laughter; Ice is tough, unsmiling in fishnets and spike-heeled boots. She speaks gruffly to the customers: Good Morning. My name is Ice…. Ice’s pubic hair is shaved to a patch so small it looks like a goatee. Me, I thought I’d be slick and use hair remover like the pros for my first day. Now my bikini-line is hairless, but itches and is bumpy like a rash. May be I should have done the skin-patch test like the package said. Plus, I had gone out and bought this red filmy costume in order to feel less naked. Breasts pushed through triangles of red elastic, funny G-string up the ass. Alas. I am more ridiculous than ever, a farce impersonating a stripper, lace crotch itching on my hairless, blistering skin…One man brings his own jar of Vaseline. How could it be this busy at 9 am ? People masturbating already. Do men wake up this way ?” – Erika Langley in The Lusty Lady.
“Lusty lady” is a peep-show club in Seattle run exclusively by women , the ex-dancers. Erika Langley was a news paper photographer in Virginia, who moved to Seattle in 1992. There she wanted to make a photo-feature on the strippers. When she approached the management of Lusty Lady
for its permission to do a photo feature on the strippers, she was asked to be a naked dancer first like all other dancers of the club. She resolves to shade her inhibitions and becomes a naked dancer in the club, and narrates her experience candidly about the life of a stripper from an insider’s view. It is a classic exposition of the woman being in full charge of her own sexual power , who has been neglected and ignored in the society . Langley moves beyond the club and visits the family members of the inmates to get a complete picture of their lives. The book is profusely stuffed with intimate photographs of the strippers of the club including the author, who shade all the inhibitions before the Camera. It is a book of great feminine interest and a must for people who are interested about the real lives and aspirations of the women of extremely feminine temperament who are in the disguise of strippers and naked dancers.
“On the other side of the glass, five naked women dance inside a mirrored box. One is lying down in the carpet with her legs spread wide, another is doing the splits vertically against a mirror. You can see the peering faces of men through the row of little square windows opposite…” – Erika langley in The Lusty lady
