It was hot and dusty and Bobby Kennedy has just been shot and we were travelling in the Greek islands and were just back
from Athens ... the hitch hiking was proving too much as the hot mid day sun beat down on our backs .. the journey out by boat from Italy was deck class .. was overcrowded and the swaying ship was enough to make even my sealegs a trifle dizzy.
The man in the taxi stopped and pulled into the kerbside and invited us in .. we were glad to get a ride out of the sun and he was going where we were. In point of fact the taxi man was the owner of a local luxury hotel somewhere in Greece where we were trekking about the place as young persons. We got a cordial free night at his hotel which was altogether very relaxing and a great flip up to the standards required for survival.
However the story was somewhat
overshadowed by the meeting with the handsome Colonel from the Greek Army who together with his crowd invited us to lunch at his villa just outside Athens .. we naturally were keen to accept and got it together fast.
The conversation was mostly Greek and our learning curve was in the rising star of our imagination so we pulled something out of it .. fortunately the Greek Colonel was fluent in English and during those hot days in the sun . he
proposed marriage to me ... this caused a bit of a stir at that time .... I couldnt accept it as I was promised to my companion at that time.
Later on the Greek Colonel was overshadowed by A Turkish Millionaire .. he proposed during the Earthquake .. funny how the wheel turns full circle . happy days. keep on reading ...
