VICTIM : THE SECRET TAPES OF MARILYN MONROE

Book Review by: TRANSCRIBER

Original Author: MATTHEW SMITH
“How can I describe to you, a man, what an orgasm feels like to a woman. I’ll try. Think of a light fixture
with a rheostat control. As you slowly turn it on, the bulb begins to get bright, then brighter and brighter and finally in a blinding flash is full lit. As you turn it off it gradually becomes dimmer and at last goes out”-
confessions of Marilyn Monroe to Dr Greenson relating to her inability to have orgasms in her Tapes(Victim : The Secret tapes of Marilyn Monroe)
Although it has to be partly biographical in order for the reader to appreciate the circumstances that Marilyn was in towards the later part of life, Victim: The Secret tapes of Marilyn Monroe is not a biography of Monroe.  Anybody who is interested in the facts and circumstances leading to her death, will definitely find this work quite interesting and revealing.  It is the latest among many books written on her death and has thrown light on many new evidences that suggest of murder of the celebrated actor. The author Matthew Smith has gone through the transcripts of secret tapes of Marilyn Monroe recorded for the use of her psychiatrist Dr Ralph Greenson  who wanted Marilyn to open up her mind completely, uttering whatever came to her mind, in order to know her exact state of mind. Since she did not feel comfortable with doing this with Dr Greenson in his clinic, this was done in her home. These tapes reveal her state of mind in the days leading up to her death and the the curious elements encompassing her mysterious death. It is well known that Marilyn had very tempestuous relationships with the Kennedy brothers Jack and Robert Kennedy. The role of the Kennedy brothers in contributing to the death of Monroe has been critically analysed from the tapes and other circumstancial evidence by the author. We have very little of Marilyn Monroe in her own words. In her tapes, Monroe opens up her mind on many subjects like Sex, Literature, Freud, pleasure, guilt, orgasm, Clark Gable (When Clark gable died, I cried for two days straight. I couldn’t eat or sleep…
) Frank Sinatra, Arthur Miller, Jack Kennedy.Through her tapes, a completely different aspect Marilyn Monroe’s life is revealed in this unique work on her by Matthew Smith.
