Anna Walsh is lying in her parents’ Good Front Room, physically and mentally a wreck, feeling extremely sorry for herself.
She decides that she must return to New York, to her friends, to “The Most Fabulous Job in the World” and most of all to Aiden. However, for some reason Aiden has been unwilling to get in touch.
This is my first Marian Keyes book and I really enjoyed it. She manages to make this Irish family come alive, with the characters of Anna, her
sister, and her
mother being especially good. We almost have three stories interwoven in very different ways. Sometimes the sister’s story seemed to get in the way a bit and I felt a bit irritated by it, but the mother’s story often had me laughing out loud. Anna’s story is a sad one and at times I felt so sorry for her working in such awful conditions.
I cannot say more as I would spoil the book for another reader. Read it yourself. It is an ideal book to take on holiday.
