There are many, more than 150 milions - each one on the heart of the brazilian people. Roberto Carlos was born in 1941's autumn, on Cachoeiro de Itapemirim city -Espírito Santo State, he was the fourth son of Mr. Robertino Braga and Mrs.Laura Moreira Braga. Zunga was the nickname received by Roberto when he was still a child. He was a normal and happy child that love's his bicycle, his kite and also love's to play football. When he was only six he went to the nun's college King Jesus Christ. Years later, his school teacher, Sister Fausta, gave him a medallion that he never takes of until the present day.Roberto Carlos was dreamer and calm, that spends many hours listening to the radio, showing a lot of interest by the
music, learning how to play the guitar and the piano - he
started learning with his mother and after on the Cachoeiro's Conservatory. The music was his passion. His first idol was Bob Nelson, that singed country music in portuguese. Roberto sings Bob Nelson's songs. Roberto was nine years old when his mother made the made the suggestion for him to sing on the radio of Cachoeiro do Itapemirim, on the children's morning program of Jair Teixeira. At the first time he performed he singed a bolero named "Amor y más amor", that became famous on the voice of Fernando Borel. Roberto keeped his performances on the radio by sundays and started to produce a nice impression with his tuning and natural talent. So the passion by the music was already at his heart. His parents wanted him as a doctor but they never let him down and always respected his choice.Roberto had already chosen the musical way. In 1955's january Roberto Carlos was in vacation at his aunt Jovina, the "dindinha", with the intent of make a perfomance at some radio stations. During this time he decided to live on Rua São José at Niterói (next to Rio de Janeiro) and started to study at Colégio Brasil (Brazil College). One year later his family moved to Rio de Janeiro. When he was fifteen, Roberto already knows a lot about music because of the piano and musical theory lessons that he received. He liked to sing Tito Madi and Dolores Duran's songs and all the great hits of the moment. At this same time surges around the world the record of Bill Halley and His Comets with the hit "Rock Around the Clock". The hit was amazing and the musical instruments were played very loud. The singer seems to incite the auditorium to the dance and to the celebration. The success arrived and appears with Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Gene Vincent and Chuck Berry that wre loved by the teenagers. The rock'n roll age was begining. The brazilian youth joins to the movement. Celly Campelo was in all the radios singing Estúpido Cupido (stupid cupid). Also surges a lot of rock'n roll tv shows. At the school, the teachers doesn't know how to react to that "new behavior". The youth dight had their own music. At Ultra School, Flag Square, during the class snatch, Roberto Carlos used to go at music room together with friends to sing and play. Otávio III, music and television producer of TV TUPI at Rio de Janeiro, liked Roberto's musics and gave him the oportunity of make a performance singing Tutti Frutti on the television. In 1957, invited by a classmate,Arlênio Lívio, Roberto started to make part of a gang of other young musicions and they created "The Sputniks". Roberto needs of the lyric of Elvis Presley's Hound Dog and so tat became the best friend of Roberto.Roberto still is one of the greatest singers of Brazil.
