The Alchemist

Book Review by: clavanour

Original Author: Coelho, Paulo
This abstract was translated from L'Alchimiste
The Alchemist is the story of self-making.Keeping the elements of a story (the visionary gipsy, the repeted dreams, the deguised
king), the novel is guiding the reader to a space seldom forgotten to be explored:inside oneself. The central idea is the research made on inner feelings. It's simple enough? The solution is not far away but on one's heart, wants to transmit Paulo Coelho. The young Santiago had hardly deciding to quit his occupation and his sheep. The close relationship with the nature presented in the novel is already showing how simple life could be if there were not the continuous questionning on its meaning, on man's origin and way in the world. The treasure in the novel symbolise the discovery during a long travel around. The difficult experiences of the hero are ending when he is coming back to his place.Deser, pyramids, caravans, secrets, cristals, the very important meeting with the alchemist are going on in his search. He had had to pass time and spaces and to experience interesting and new things but he had understood that the truth is so close to him and he has only to open his eyes and accept this.
