Getting Rid of Matthew

Book Review   by:communityfriend     Original Author: Jane Fallon
ª

Matthew is married to Sophie but for the last four years has been having an affair with Helen. Helen continually begs Matthew to leave Sophie and move in with her. Eventually Matthew leaves Sophie and his two daughters to be with Helen. Helen then decides she no longer loves him and the rest of the book is about her efforts to get rid of Matthew. That about sums it up as nothing exciting happens!

My friend loaned me this book with the comment, ”it is different”. It was certainly different as I have never come across a book with so little going for it. The descriptions of life in the office where Helen and Matthew work were just completely unbelievable, with everybody being incredibly rude and doing no work. The three main characters struck me as being very weak. The only thing I can say about this book is that three times I gave up on it but went back to it, as I thought it cannot be this bad, it must get better. The ending after all the ranting and raving was subdued and expected.
