The Noonday Demon

Book Review by: BeatriceColley

Original Author: Andrew Solomon
This truly is an atlas of depression. Mr. Solomon takes us on his own personal rollercoaster ride
of darkness
and despair. In addition to the telling of his own horrendous ordeal, he has taken up the subject as a most worthy cause. The exhaustive amount of research is evident as he explores the biological and environmental components, the historical, political and legal aspects, the treatments (archaic and modern) and the attitudes and social stigma attached to mental illness in general. It leaves the reader with encouraging hope for the future. This book should, in my opinion, be required reading for psychology students, psychiatrists, therapists, school counselors, friends and family of anyone suffering from this affliction, as well as those afflicted. Brilliant, beautiful, eloquent.....
