As an avid reader, I prefer books that I can lose myself in. Redeeming Love happens
to be one of those very books. I have had the pleasure of reading this book several times and would like to say that I have not only enjoyed a great book but learned valuable moral lessons hidden within the wondrous lines of Francine Rivers'' words. One of the best and most important lessons I have been blessed to obtain from this book has been that of unconditional love. I hope as you read this synopsis you will in turn feel pulled by something deep within you to find what messages within this work of art are for you!
As you read you are introduced to several life altering characters and learn the backdrop of Angel, a fair and beautiful woman with piercing blue eyes, who has been thrown into prostitution and who from childhood has battled with rejection, sexual abuse, and poverty among other things. She was given to an older perverse gentleman at a young age who used her for his sexual pleasures and professed that what he was doing was love. After years of torment from the "Duke" she gathered her nerves and ran away only to be caught up in the same situation just in a different place. She became so entrapped in that lifestyle she lost all hope and as a lost child was completely helpless.
While Angel was struggling to keep the will to live another character was struggling with living alone and by Gods word! For years Michael Hosea had followed God in all he was seeking and because of that he has prospered as a farmer. One of the things Michael had actively been seeking God on, was that of a wife. During one of his routine trips to Paradise to sell his produce, Michael was captivated when he saw the beauty of a young woman walking down the street, only to find out she was indeed a soiled dove. An inner voice, Gods voice, proceeded to tell him that she was the one he had been praying for. In astonishment, Michael wasn''t able to see past her profession and left only to return and pay his hard earned money for time with Angel. After several times visiting her and pleading with her to marry him she was forced to agree or be killed from the lifestyle she was leading. She agreed to marry after a severe beating and knew she would die if she didn''t leave with this farmer.
When Angel was taken back to Michael''s farm and began living a life that she had never known it terrified her. It terrified her that there could be a different kind of love an unconditional love than she had ever known. Through Michael, Gods love was very evident and strong but it also portrayed the struggles with living for God and the human flesh!
Angel encountered several hardships such as judgment, destructive criticism, hate, and loathing but along with those hardships were also learning what true love and unconditional love was and letting go of the lies told to her all her life.
Based on the story of Hosea and Gomer in the Bible, Francine Rivers takes the story to another level. She writes from her heart filling the pages with raw emotion. Packed with so many things that we would see as ugly, is a beauty found deep within of lasting love, trust, courage, mercy, compassion, forgiveness, and loyalty among others. I hope that everyone can take principles from this book and apply them in their everyday life.
