A young girl and her father out walking in the snow at night come across a new born baby abandoned in the woods.
The story of how the baby came to be there, together with the history of the father and
daughter''''s own life story makes a powerful and moving book.
This is my first book by Anita Shreve and I enjoyed it very much. For personal reasons I could relate to the close but strained relationship between a young girl and her father.
I was also aided by reading it in the garden during a rare occurrence - a sunny Bank Holiday -
and was engrossed enough to finish the book in one day.
