It''''s the not to distant future and the over weight are having a hard time. There is now a FAT tax so if you are larger
or heavier then the person next to you then you may find yourself paying more on airfares. Well come on the more you weight the more fuel it takes to get you off the ground.
People are
obsessed by their weight. Fat people just want to be treated as people and slim people just want to be slimmer. The
government sees it as a good idea to try and help the over weight and open Well Farms – boot camps for the fat.
The book follows the stories of three people. One that is trying to do something about his weight but just cant do anything without feeling faint or going into a rage. A second that is so obsessed with her weight that it is taking over her life and putting her in danger. The third the man who has to sell the Well Farms to the nation.
Quite a funny book by the man that was half of the team that brought us Red Dwarf and has another couple of bestsellers under his belt. FAT rams home the nanny state that we seem to be living in. Only this week have the government stated that traffic lights will be put onto foods so we know what is good and what is not so good to eat. I''''m sure if this book was read by some in power they will be seeing the Well Farms as a good idea.
Not the best of Rob Grants books but one that you can rattle through and have a chuckle with in the process.
