The Prodigal Daughter

Book Review   by:p s renee     Original Author: Jeffrey Archer
ª

In this sequel to Kane and Abel, we see the lives of the two terrific men from the perspective of Abel’s daughter, Florentyna. She, unlike her father, grows up in an affluent environment and since childhood, nurses the ambition of becoming President of the United States. As a child, she is tutored well by her English governess, Miss Tredgold. She attends the finest schools and colleges and begins to manage her father’s business empire. But, life takes an unexpected turn when she falls in love with Richard Kane, the son of her father’s archrival. Their families disown both Florentyna and Richard, when they get married against their wishes. But, instead of giving up, Florentyna uses her skill and talent to become a successful businesswoman herself. Although, her heart lies elsewhere, in politics. With Richard’s support, she does that too successfully and becomes a senator. Does she eventually realize her childhood dream? Well, you can find that out for yourself.
Florentyna is a memorable character; attractive, smart, independent, spirited and strong-willed, she is really inspiring. Archer takes us through the highs and lows in the life of this extraordinary woman, very well written.
