Opening this
book it might surprise you that instead of a novel, which is typical for Joanne Harris, you will find a collection of twenty-two short stories.
The
author of the well-known title Chocolat has not dissapointed. Jigs and Reels is a blend of warm-hearted, exhilarating and poignant
stories contemplating the fragility of human''s
relationships and values. The backround of stories is set in France - seemingly author''s favourite since her other novels Chocolat,Five Quarters of an Orange, Holy Fools etc take place there as well.
Some of the stories are realistic, the others are taking us into the world of
magic and fantasy with no frontiers.
Reading the book you will witness how a couple of elderly ladies adamant to go shopping flee their old people''s home, a literature teacher whose discovery of a great story almost cost him his life, what secrets are revealed at an (extra) ordinary school reunion and much more.
Having read the book several times I can give it my best recommendation. Jigs and Reels is a book of everyday philosophy confirming that the biggest wisdom is weaved into the smallest things.
