BAULS: THE MYSTICS OF CELEBRATION PART-1(osho)

Book Review by: kadungoth

Original Author: OSHO
BAULS:  THE MYSTICS OF CELEBRATION.

YOU ARE DIVINE-AN UNDERSTANDING OF SELF  PART-1 The name Baul has thus originated from the Sanskrit word ‘Batul’ that means afflicted stricken with the wind or mad. Bauls belongs to Bengal. This book  “bauls: the mystic of celebration” written by Osho clearly gives the sketch of life of bauls and how they attain salvation or moksha. The philosophy of Bauls is different from that of Vedas, which are more puritan, more moralistic, and are more rituals and also from tantra, which uses sex to rise to higher above. Osho has beautifully sketched the philosophy of Bauls. He beautifully narrates the celebration of bauls to become supernatural, divine and also salvation. Baul uses adhar manush or essential man for god. For them god is not separate thing it is within and not outside in temples, church or mosque. Essence of god is within us. To find the essential man is the whole search. Osho uses the following character of Bauls to reach the Supreme Being.
They are rebellious people and not religious or revolutionary people.
God - your own consciousness                                                                                      Love and meditation
Dropping of ego
When we describe the characters of Bauls in a step-by-step manner we ourselves can find the essential man (also known as adhar manush) in us. Rebellious people and not religious Like Vedas they do not have rituals. But he is not against rituals. He may not go to mosque be is not against musilms, he may not go to temple but he is not against Hindus. Karl Marx, Lenin etc are revolutionaries who want to change the world. They changed the world because they believe that only by changing the world they can live, people can live. He want to turn the world according to his wish then only happiness can be brought to the otherwise unhappy world. Unlike Karl Marx and Lenin, Bauls are not revolutionary people but Osho uses the term ‘Rebellious people’ for Bauls. Unlike revolutionary people the Bauls are not bothered about the world, he is none to change the world to better because world has its own way and he believes that he is no one to interfere with the world. According to Osho non-essential man will mutate into essential man when ego is dropped.
