When Gabriela arrives to the
brazilian town of Ilhéus, things would never be the same. In 1925 the cacao plantations of the
city are blooming and progress reigns, but what
worries Nacib, the arab is that his cook has just quitted from his bar. He ventures in the market to employ a temporary worker and finds a young black girl, savage and with her hair covered with dust. But something in her voice makes Nacib take a risk and give her a chance, and it seems that he was not the only one to take notice of her. In an instant there's more to think about than the daily worries: love affairs, murders, banquets, funerals, desire, hate, vengeance and miracles. Since always associated to the first
brazilian telenovela aired in Portugal, Gabriela is a feast to the senses, and the way how Amado managed to seize and transmit the Brazil of the Colonels is absolutely unique and cannot be missed.
