Deconstruction

Article Review   by:Anjali Thakur     Original Author: Literary Criticism

Jacks Derrida, the father of ontological sciences and communication scientist propagated ‘Deconstruction’ as a methodology which can create, maintain and sustain the communication channel alive for the overall health and development of society. Deconstruction have been presented and the fields like philosophy, politics and intellectualism, in all of them it is a strategy to read or stance taken for reading of a specific text. For example, students of literature and literary theory are interested in the power of reading and its mode of reading. In this context, Derrida describes the strategy of deconstruction as “Every philosophical argument is structure in terms of opposition and traditional philosophical opposition there is no peaceful co-existence but a violent hierarchy… to deconstruct opposition is above of at a particular point to reverse the hierarchy”. This statement implies that text is riddling so needs the discovery, for which proper reading of text is must. Unfortunately, the superficial reading is only the covering, what deconstruction advocates it is not to cover the text but to discover the text. For this Barbara Johnson argues that “Deconstruction is not synonym to destruction”. Deconstruction is much closer to the original word of analysis which epistemologically is ‘to undo’ literary it is ‘to de-construct’. The deconstruction of the text does not proceed randomly but it is careful teasing out of fighting forces and the significance of it is in the text itself. That is why if anything is destroyed in deconstructive reading, it is not the text, but the claim to unequivocal domination of one mode of signifying over the other. Keeping this in mind to deconstruct the ‘discourse’ Derrida and Jonarthan Culler are making the following important observations:
1. Deconstruction is ‘a searching out’ or dismantling operation conducted on discourse.
2. How the discourse itself under-minds the argument it asserts.
3. Deconstruction is to see how the argument is structured or constructed so to investigate its rhetorical status or argumentative strategy.
4. Deconstruction is a permanent act of destabilization.
5. Deconstruction is a way which leads away from the wrong way of thinking and writing.
Derrida believes that the definition of deconstruction is the unity of ‘Logos and Concept’. Deconstruction means ‘Dismantling of Structure’, deconstruction with structuralism is rather misleading because the understanding of deconstruction in a structuralism tends to conceive the text patterns because patterns as grid is limited so Levis Strauss propagated imposed structuralism the reading deconstruction is oriented towards uncovering of text. It is textual organization which is destabilized, dismantles, and deconstructed to comprehend the ontology of the meaning.
To conclude, deconstruction takes its place on its own, it does not wait for anything or anyone. The post-structuralist believes that it deconstruct itself, it can be deconstructed. Deconstruction is not only analysis, only dismantling but a philosophical project in itself.
